Find and treat

'Find and treat' from University College Hospital (UCH) came to the shelter (October 2019) with their treatment bus to check and treat our residents for Tuberculosis (TB) and to offer them and our volunteers the flu jab. Thank you 'Find & treat' for your consistent service to Highway House.

Pastor Alex Gyasi was invited to a reception at St. James Palace

Pastor Alex Gyasi was invited to a reception at St. James Palace hosted by their Royal Highnessess's the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall on Wednesday the 25th of October 2018 to mark their visit to Ghana, Gambia and Nigeria. Pastor Alex had the opportunity to speak to both Prince Charles and Camilla at the reception and shared with them the work of Highway house homeless shelter. The Highway House began in 2009 just through feeding 2 homeless men and has ever since sheltered over 850 people from over 60 nationalities. What makes the Highway House unique is that it provides shelter for people from the most vulnerable groups in society including those without recourse to public funds, the mentally ill and the those who are recovering from treatment received from hospital and would otherwise have been discharged unto the street.
A social Return of Investment research conducted by the university of Eastern London into the impact of our work found that for every pound invested in Highway House £5 - £8 is returned to society. We thank all our past and present supporters and volunteers of the Highway House.

The full story of Highway House including all the challenges and what happened to the first two men that were helped, has been carefully documented in 'The Test Room' written by Rev. Alex Gyasi. Includes additional stories from some of the homeless men who have been helped by Highway House. Proceeds from the sale of this book go towards the work of Highway House.
